Oneg Shabbat at DHC

Oneg Shabbat: Another great evening in Darlington.

The 2nd DHC Oneg Shabbat was held at the synagogue on Friday, 21st November.  Lay reader Ray Honeybourne most ably conducted the kabbalat Shabbat service for which the community thanks him. This is a new addition to the DHC service schedule for 2014/15. Fortunately those special tunes had not been forgotten by the congregation.  The meal was fully booked with just enough room for everyone to have a seat to enjoy the lavish 3 course meal. All age groups from 8 to 80 plus were represented.  Thank you to all the magnificent DHC cooks and especially to social club organiser, Estelle Solomon for co-ordinating a most interesting and varied menu as well as cooking several dishes herself.  Extra treats such as after dinner mints and drinks were provided by the other diners.

It was really obvious from start to finish just how much the community really enjoys spending sociable time together. The noise level was tremendous! The atmosphere was brilliant; just like a large, lively family Friday night meal. Kept in order by our Chair, Bess, we sang several zemirot. The community was delighted that our President Peter Freitag and his wife Valerie were able to join us having very recently returned from a special 50th wedding anniversary trip to the Far East. The next Oneg Shabbat is scheduled for 23rd January and fierce competition for seats is expected!
