Yom Kippur 5776

posted 2 Oct 2015, 05:29 by Peninnah Pappworth-McAllister
The Yom Kippur services from Kol Nidrei to Neilah took those of us who were fortunate enough to be able to attend all of them, (which was this year, perhaps a majority of those who attended), on what seemed like a great  journey. The afternoon discussion concerning the importance and balance of ethics and ritual in Judaism was well attended and seemed to be of great interest with all present making  contributions. Thank you to all members and friends who supported DHC by their attendance on this  the most important day of the Jewish Year.
Special thanks are owed to Rabbi  Dr Borts for all the thought and preparation that had gone into leading the community through moving and meaningful services. Thank you too to Ray Honeybourne, our lay leader, for  once again leading the minchah service and Estelle who had brought delicious home-made soup and honey cakes for  us to break the fast. This year  at the end of the concluding service we were fortunate to have a team of no less than 3 shofar blowers as Bryn (12) very ably joined the rabbi and Aaron.
